The MS Matrix is Offered as A Bare Circuit Board

This is the MS Matrix based on the design published in the Pro Audio Design Forum. The Precision MS Matrix uses high accuracy THAT1240 line receivers to perform mid-side sum and difference functions providing crosstalk performance unobtainable with conventional precision resistors.

The Precision M/S Matrix provides simultaneous encode/decode capability. THAT1246  line receivers and THAT1646 OutSmarts® line drivers provide fully-balanced I/O for the encoder and decoder inputs and outputs.

Additional unbalanced insert points are provided for encode left and right (post line receiver), encode mid and side (pre line driver), decode mid and side (post line receiver), and decode left and right (pre line driver). These additional insert points permit muting, level trim and precision "end-to-end" (E-E)  monitoring via external circuitry.

The THAT1240 used in the Pico M/S provides resistor ratio matching that is typically 0.005% enabling full encode-decode crosstalk performance that is typically >60 dB across the full audio band. In the precision monitoring mode, which bypasses the encoder line driver and decoder line receiver, crosstalk is typically >75 dB. The precision monitoring mode allows the matrix to remain in the path permitting the effects of insert processing to be isolated for precise "A-B" comparison and level-match.

This is a bare PC board and does not include any components. THAT1240, THAT1246 and THAT1646 ICs are available in addition to a kit containing the PC board and THAT ICs. Most of the passive components and the dual op amp (a 5532 or equivalent) can be purchased from Mouser Electronics and a bill-of-materials is available on the Pico Compressor Forum.
